(More customer reviews)I purchased this fan to replace a similar one in the bathroom. I removed the original fan and housing (same brand and size) and expected to complete a simple reinsertion. It was not to be. Without bending the welded supports on the tube sleeve, my choices were to go in the attic (Tough with only a very narrow craw space.) or tear out the ceiling to accommodate the support bars. (Not really an option, actually.) The only real option was to bend the "C" shape braces, insert the whole unit in the existing hole, then bend them back out. That's a good way to break thin metal of this shape.
Then I inserted the metal support arms extensions in to the now straightened braces on the tube. Obviously, a bent, then straightened support will be weaker then one with its original shape integrity. It would have been a much more secure and less time consuming job if the design allowed for the braces to be pivoted parallel with the tube, then turned and locked in place once the fan was in the attic area. Otherwise,if this fan lasts as long as the one we had for twenty years, it's worth the hassle.
