This fan matches the Mission (Arts & Crafts) style of my home.It's well made and reasonably easy to install.The two wire (plus ground) electric connection means you don't need to rewire a ceiling light (otherwise to control the fan and both lighting sections would require a hard-to-install new multiconductor wire).

It does require a ceiling fan electric box with extra weight capability(~50 lbs), but these are relatively easy to install into a wooden stud ceiling from below (through the octagonal ceiling light box cutout; once you've removed the old lighting ceiling box).Be sure to turn off the breaker for the circuit or get an electrician.

It has a "bracket" that mounts to the ceiling box, and a "ball" on the hanger pipe that allows you to use both hands on the fan to lift the fan in place on the ceiling; much easier than trying to hold the fan in one hand and put a pin in with the other (I don't think I could lift this hefty fan with one hand safely).

The package contained everything I needed, except the fan ceiling box and two 60W candelabra bulbs (use bulbs rated for vibration use).There are two "hanger rods" (short decorative pieces of pipe); one that is "minimum length" (~3.5 inches) and one that is "short" (~6 inches).If you have a sloped (cathedral) ceiling, you'll need a longer pipe.Most big box home improvement stores have the pipes and fan electric boxes.The metal color is described as "iron oxide" which I took to be black when buying the fan, but I would call it more a dark bronze color.

Once installed, you have to "teach" the fan to recognize the wall control switch; it was easy.

It took me about 90 minutes to install and test.

The fan is quiet, three speed and reversible, all controlled at the wall.There are no switches on the fan.Each of the two lighting sections (one above the blades, one below) is independently controllable, with a continuous dimmer.it remembers the last setting.

(More customer reviews)I bought this product at the local Home Depot store to switch the light and the fan on my bedroom fan. The installation requires to install a canopy module that sits between the switch and the fan itself. The canopy module is zip-tied to the internal fan housing and is out of sight. Relatively speaking, the canopy module installation was pretty straight forward.

When I installed the switch, I though I paid attention to how the previous switch was wired. Unfortunately I had one of the wires reversed. My switch had three black leads attached to it. One of them was power, the other went to the fan and the third continued the circuit to the rest of the room. I accidentally reversed the wiring which left me confused as the fan would be on, with all of the circuits in the room, however the switch did not affect anything on the fan.

I wasn't sure if I did something wrong at the switch end or the canopy module end. I called up Lutron's tech support which is listed in the instructions and on their website. 24/7 tech support was really 24/7 as I was calling at 7pm on a Sunday evening! Amazingly I was talking to someone from the US; I figured that they would definitely offshore a weekend call. This likely speaks to their customer service guarantee. The tech on the phone pointed out that I may have the wires at the switch reversed and suggested that I disconnect it, leave two of the black leads touching, turn on the breaker and see what happens. From there I saw that I wired the room power to the fan, but not to the rest of the room. I made the appropriate fixes to the switch and happily completed the install. Major kudos to the Lutron customer service and tech support.

Lastly, this is a really cool switch, it has a number of different modes for turning the lights and fan on and off, including delayed dimming, fast-on, fast-off and variable speed settings with memory. It is a great product and wouldn't mind installing it in any of my other rooms with fans. It also means that you don't have to use the pull cords on the fans anymore.

(More customer reviews)I've always been a Hunter fan (gosh that's funny!), and wanted to spend a little more on their Original Classic.I am glad I did.Every part of the fan is of higher quality. The blades have real wood veneer on each side (walnut and oak); not the wood look vinyl.

The motor housing is cast iron (over 40 pounds! be careful) and uses oil (tube include) to continuously bathe the ball bearings and circulates to other vital areas.Hence, this fan comes with a lifetime warranty. They say the oil should never have to be replaced or added to, but the level should be checked every 5 years.

They kept the old Classic look and design but improved the efficiency. It has an Energy Star rating and is the most efficient model I've ever owned (I have 2 other new Hunter fans which are not as efficient; still good though). The efficiency ratings are shown on the outside top of the box.

It's a great fan.

(More customer reviews)Like it's single switch companion Leviton ODS15-IDW Decora Passive Infrared Wall Switch Occupancy Sensor, 180 Degree, 2100 sq ft Coverage, Self-Adjusting, White ... this works as both an occupancy sensor or a vacancy sensor.Like it's companion, it's commercial duty instead of just residential duty and relay based, so CFLs work fine on these.The key difference is that this switch will control two circuits from one sensor; rooms setup with two lighting levels is one scenario where this switch applies.The two sides operate on separate wiring pairs, so it can function where the feeds are split too.

(The rest is a repeat review of the single switch; this operates just the same, only that it applies to two circuits, not just one.)

Unlike other occupancy sensors, these have one very nice feature - adjustable ambient light detection.In the auto-on mode, it'll only turn on the light if there's insufficient ambient light (ie. it's dark out) and won't if there is enough light (ie. daylight through the windows).Likewise, it can be completely disabled for manual-on/auto-off operation only (Title 24).The coverage is excellent and sensitive - you walk into the room, and it knows you're there, unlike some cheaper ones in which you'd almost have to dance right in front of the sensor for it to detect anything.Even at the far end of the hallway here, over 20 feet away, it can detect motion.If you don't want that much range or angle coverage, you can adjust those down too.

Style wise, it's nice that the sensor isn't like some pucker mouth protrusion as with some other models.It is sleekly integrated with the rest of the switch.

Installation wise, NO neutral wire is required.A common ground wire still is, however.It is wider and deeper than a regular switch, though, so you may have issues if your j-box is small.

Minor nit - the time delays are preset.Too minor to ding a star, though - the other features, besides the fact that IT WORKS, more than justify the 5 stars.

The remote is a little bulky, though, and I wish it came with a mount for holstering it on the wall (by a light switch) like most remotes do.

(More customer reviews)I bought this nice looking utility fan for my 2-car garage. Special-ordered from Lowes for the same price listed here.
The motor isn't reversible. A very bulky 5-speed wall switch is included in the box. Fan comes with a 1/2" x 12" downrod and j-hook mounting bracket. The j-hook won't accomodate a wireless controller, and it offsets the downrod from the center of the fan box.The offset was pretty noticeable since I used a surface-mount fan box. I suppose I could replace the j-hook with a universal ball and ball hanger to fix that.
Anyway, the reason I decided to take this back to Lowes is that it just doesn't move a lot of air. If I am directly beneath the blades on the highest setting, I feel a light breeze. If I step anywhere outside the 56" diameter of the fan, I don't feel anything - although it sounds like it's blowing a lot of air. I guess the problem is the shape and pitch of the blades. They look almost flat and parallel.
I replaced this fan with a Hampton Bay 60" Industrial fan, and the difference is night and day (and $10 cheaper). Of course it's a bigger fan, but I still expected more from a 56", as my garage is 18.5' x 20'.
