(More customer reviews)I recently purchased and installed two ceiling fans in my bedrooms.The first one was the Emerson Curva 44" fan in brushed steel.I almost bought both fans at the same time, but decided to install the first one before ordering a second.Glad I did.After installing and living with this fan for a week, I decided to purchase a different make and model for the second bedroom.Hence the "Tale of two ceiling fans."I reviewed the other fan, a Minka Aire Concept II, separately.I would recommend that fan highly over the Emerson.

First the good news about the Emerson:It is an attractive fan, similar in appearance to the Minka.Once properly balanced, the Emerson fan is extremely quiet and wobble free.Balancing was fairly straight-forward using the kit that came with the fan (the Minka came with a similar kit).But that's where the similarity ends.

Everything on the Emerson had to be assembled, the blades, the light kit, and the remote control receiver are all separate and need to be attached and/or wired to the motor housing.The receiver does not attached securely to anything, but simply floats loosely within the canopy, which makes attaching the canopy to the ceiling mount a three-handed job.The blades need to be installed first, followed by the light kit, which makes the assembled unit unwieldy to install.The halogen bulb (which must NOT be touched with bare hands) did not screw easily into the candelabra base, but constantly cross threaded...another aggravation.

But I could have forgiven the hassle of the installation if the fan had then worked flawlessly.Unfortunately, the remote control seems to have a mind of its own, working only when it feels like it.There are no instructions for the remote, and it is not intuitive, especially when it does not perform consistently.I wanted a hand-held remote so that the fan and light could be controlled from the bed.But lately the only way I can turn off the light is by the wall switch, negating any advantage of the remote.When it works, the remote controls fan speed (6 speeds), direction, light intensity and on-off functions.But I have little confidence in it to do WHAT I want WHEN I want.

Given that this fan and the Minka are about the same price and similar in appearance, I can see no reason to select the Emerson over the Minka.I wish I had bought the Minka first.

(More customer reviews)This fan is not especially quiet. It measures 64 decibels at one meter directly below it in a large bathroom (Radio Shack analog DB meter, A weighted). Not a a huge racket, but not a whisper either. It also doesn't seem to move much more air than my old fan, which had a smaller blower and 3" duct (this one has a clear 4" duct right through the roof - you'd think it would do better with a big duct like that). Overall it's very ordinary fan - certainly not worth the premium price.

It was a huge pain to install too, with a "snap off" vent assembly that didn't "snap" back on, and gibberish instructions. Just ignore the directions and do what makes sense and you'll get it in.

I got this from "The Price Pros", who apparently no longer sell it. Two other fans in the order had 3x5 oval vents instead of 3" round vent as claimed. Price Pros refused to give me a refund or exchange. I'm furious with Price Pros, Panasonic, and Amazon, which should not allow crooks like Price Pros to sell on Amazon's site. This was the only fan of the three which had a round vent (4", as advertised). The other two were a total waste of over $150. This is the last time I'll ever buy a construction items online. From now on it's local hardware stores.

This rod came in stainless steel with no cover on it to match the ceiling fan.I am very disappointed that it is a stainless steel rod instead of a decorative one.Very misleading.I got this because my other accents are bronzed or gold, and I don't need a silver looking rod.

(More customer reviews)Apparently it looks now like the ceiling fan I ordered has been removed in looking for the product link.I ordered. Received shipment notice from store and Amazon. Received the two light kits I simultaneously ordered. FedEx showed that the fan was left at door..Rural area here; no one would take it in broad daylight. My home office window where I work 7 days a week is right next to the porch/door. No way I would have missed it. To add to this fiasco, Hunter Customer Relations advised fan discontinued & apparently didn't read my note that shipment notice was received by me!! Amazon emailed saying a refund was issued for returned merchandise!! Apparently neither read and contacted FedEx. Hunter person didn't offer possible substitution fan, only said I could return my light kits & again, didn't check to see that they sent a notice of shipment sent to me.
I'm a reasonably frequent purchaser via Amazon - both the selling company and Amazon should be ashamed.
